    I believe it’s called “HyperNormalisation.”

The president of the USA was sharing secret letters with his best friend, a convicted pedophile? “Oh well, nothing we can do.”

A genocide is resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians? “Yeah true, but don’t be annoying about it.”

The environment is becoming more polluted, warmer, less inhabitable every passing day? “I guess someone will do something about it eventually.”

Ignoring the problem is to cope with horror of “having to admit to the problem and then doing something about it”.

I feel this. I can hear the people singing the song of angry men, but I am one body and cannot do anything about it myself. I know, I know, organize; but I can hardly leave the house without a panic attack, so maybe I can’t do it, but I would love to help in whatever way I could…

The main point they provide is that ‘we can’t do anything’, their form of cope is ‘we can’t do anything’, and since they believe that to continue functioning, they genuinely do not do anything, only mildly support some movements or something, being careful not to support anything that may affect them because ‘atleast i should be able to continue living like this’

Everyone* is convinced everything will go to shit if it isn’t Europe, if not USA staying as a superpower

*People I met online, predominantly western

Clearly we either live in a dystopian novel, or a novel written by a Fascist who thinks everything that’s happening now is good or is otherwise part of a greater plan that will end in the ultimate triumph of Fascism worldwide.

I’m not sure any piece of fiction people write can ever come close to the horrors going on in our world right now.

And if you’re writing fiction yourself, please don’t subject the people of that world to the same shit here, or at least, make sure they actually have some hope of improving lmao, unlike irl.
