At least the UK still manages some small-scale steam locomotive production.

But seriously, these machines are expensive to keep operational and certified, and usually groups like this are on shoestring budgets.

    These machines are incredibly cool and failing to preserve them is a travesty. Just being near them feels good. The sound, the atmosphere, the potential for explosions if mishandled. I love them. Recently had a ride on the Flying Scotsman and thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Fortunately there’s a shit tonne of people here in the UK willing to pay to ride them so I think they must make the money to keep it going. I guess population density and less train nerds might make that an issue in the US?
