In China you don’t have the right to loudly protest all of the imperialist wars that they aren’t doing.

In America you have the right to impotently whine while your nation goes on killing rampages.

Democracy is not an ornament to be put on display, but an instrument for addressing the issues that concern the people. Whether a country is democratic or not depends on whether its people are truly the masters of the country. It depends on whether the people have the right to vote, and more importantly, the right to participate; what promises they are given during elections, and more importantly, how many of these promises are delivered after elections…if they are only treated well by candidates during elections and are ignored after, this is not true democracy.

the eternal irony of America priding itself on democracy when the will of the people is openly disrespected by leaders who struggle to keep up 50% approval.

it’s the same nonsense in Canada - leaders who campaigned on promises they never intended to keep are the ones moral grandstanding about democracy

They always do this with the USSR too

When you point out colonial crimes and engineered famines in the colonies of western Empires, that’s “unfortunate” and “sure, that’s bad too”, but USSR “is worse because it did it to its own citizens” us-foreign-policy

They don’t know shit about fuck and they are so arrogant about it too

    Good luck on your journey

    Yeah, fuck you too

because it did it to its own citizens

This is always such a tell. It shows they don’t consider Native Americans, black slaves, or people killed in the Holocaust as people. All three of those groups were citizens of their country and those three in particular are probably the worst things humans have ever done to one another.

It’s not abuse of power (sorry, “authority”) to use a military to blow up thousands of people for a lie because you could powerlessly criticize them for doing it thousands of miles from the front lines?

    What?

So it’s not authoritarian if your government ignores your objections and blows people up?

Has the one true power dynamics understander finally logged on? Are the prophecies true?

politics for Liberals is a personal quest for absolution. It’s a moral epic where they are the main character, and the primary goal is to alleviate their own guilt and “sin”.

They do not have the view of politics as a collective project towards material improvements, of wresting power away from those who oppose our interests.

      • **They do not have the view of politics as a collective project towards material improvements, **of wresting power away from those who oppose our interests.

        Hmmm…

Therein the arguments against socialist states. Every death under socialism is a failure of the government, because it dared to try to solve problems collectively. Under capitalism, deaths are due to the individual’s failures, and therefore no one’s responsibility. Therein the ability to justify angrily and self-righteously calling for a “return to normal” in the face of mass death and disablement.
