The Catholic Church has a terrible history but it is quite literally housing them in the United States. The conservative Catholics are concerned about Trump because most parishes wouldn’t exist without their Spanish services. They usually outnumber the English services by a large margins.

Many many MANY grants to house, care for, give legal assistance, resettle, teach English, give childcare, and so on and so forth, are done by the Catholic Church as part of its non profit mission to help everyone. They genuinely believe in loving the stranger and Samaritan, and helping those who come here regardless of national origin. There was a lot of federal money available to non-profit organizations that work in poverty relief, and wouldn’t you know it immigrants and refugees tend to live in poverty. The Catholic Church, not discriminating based on national origin and in fact finding immigrants underserved BECAUSE they’re not allowed access to other forms of benefits, specialized in helping those populations specifically as part of their mission. Trump is cancelling all those grants because they hate poor people and immigrants and Brown people, but ESPECIALLY poor brown immigrants. Can’t let the church be WOKE and help the ethnics™ after all. It is a slow burn humanitarianism disaster if they do not find alternative funding streams. They might from states and extra offerings, but it’s unlikely to sustain in the long run.
