One of George Washington’s slaves ran away from him, while he was President. The slave, named Oney Judge, ran away because after a lifetime of faithful service to the Washington family, she was informed that she was going to be given away as a wedding present to one of Martha Washington’s nieces. After Oney escaped, George Washington sent a bounty hunter to hunt her, but she was able to evade him, living as a free woman in New Hampshire.
