i always thought nothing ever happens was a joke. is it not? i mean there’s something to be said about the speed at which things are subsumed and normalized by popular culture and the media. obviously things happen. we just went through a huge pandemic. we are arguably in the throes of world war 3 and have been for some time. the world is obviously different than it was 5, 10, 20, 30 years ago. but when things do happen the media is quick to normalize and revert to the mean so the line can keep going up.

Depending on the crowd part of the joke is how nothing happens in a way that forces material change in their life. Pandemic that should’ve reshaped society? A bit of time at home then back to worker droning. Being in the birth of ww3 for a few years now? If we were really in ww3, why does my stonks keep going up?

It’s a bit of a metabit sometimes about how pretending nothing ever happens is almost equal in weight for nothing ever happens. You can dismiss anything and everything as nothing as the machine will attempt to decree it and keep moving forward.

Edit: World World 3? That’s nothing, tell me when Nuclear Winter starts, then maybe something happened.
