Trust me when I say that you do not want that. They cry constantly, and giving them cbd or thc only barely masks their feeling but now you have a drug addicted anxious dog that eats medicine bottles if he finds them because of the peanut butter and euphoria associations.

We’re working with a vet that specialises in behavioural therapy. My dog is taking Gabapentin (a human drug for epilepsy ¯\(ツ)/¯) and it’s definitely helping her. She’s now sufficiently calm that we can successfully work at counter conditioning her triggers. It’s a slow process but seeing her become increasingly relaxed in her environment is so rewarding. Maybe you can find a specialist near you that can prescribe stronger meds and guide you through the conditioning work?

That’s not always the case. Our last dog was big and didnt mind being home all day without us and outside the occasional ask for going out she was self reliant. Never gave her any drugs, outside a few infections. Got real lucky with her. Sadly passed a year ago.
