In For All Mankind, one of the arbitrary changes they made to the timeline, that has no impact on the story what-so-ever, is that the IRA successfully assassinated Margret Thatcher.
They are trying to portray the correct timeline, obviously.
IRA succeeded and Mark Chapman didn’t. That’s the right way around.

First time I heard it was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, always thought that was the source. That vampire was sired by Spike, so my head cannon is that Spike is the author of the quote back when he was living in the UK, and IRA copied it (or he was IRA… Could be just for fun)
