Initially I was like “I’m not a huge fan of bluesky but at least it means people can post shit critical of the government without it being censored… oh”
There has been a CLEARLY observable pattern over the past two decades of internet communities being completely fucking RUINED by corporate interests, only for people to find refuge on a new corporate platform with IDENTICAL fucking incentives to the one they just left. The cycle is as obvious as the Sun, the tides, and the seasons. Bluesky is filled with the fucking idiots who still couldn’t recognize this in 2024. People who think the Sun ceases to exist at nighttime.
I’m kinda biased since we all use Lemmy but Mastodon is that service if they need a Twitter alternative, of course, Mastodon predates Bluesky and people could’ve moved but for reasons (either they literally just didn’t know or disliked a Mastodon feature) only known to them they just… went to Bluesky without fully understanding why Twitter/X became the way it is that isn’t surface level ‘Elon Musk ruined everything’ (which he did ruin a lot, but was a byproduct and initiator rather than the full reason)
There was a suspicious amount of FUD about Mastodon (what’s an instance!? it’s all so complicated!) as Twitter shit the bed and bluesky started the invite-only facebook/Google-plus playbook
It doesn’t help that most big podcasters (including c/podcasts faves) got big from cultivating Twitter followings, so those grifters were unsurprisingly more than willing to shit on Mastodon.
Its the one that has the “good” elites on it. The only reason why twitter was ever important was because its the one that the elites used the most publicly.
One could write an essay on why the twitter format suites the bourgeoisie the most. Digital Ticker Tape.
It’s ticker tape for everything. I have a co-worker who used to be in fire watch (private fire watch for insurance companies) and they did fire watching by literally checking Twitter for videos of smoke in their insurance regions and then triangulating the position from video location metadata and geological features.

What exactly is the point of that site?

Nobody needs a twitter alternative, “microblogging” was always a bad format
I still use RSS. I feel like a fucking dinosaur trying to explain how it works to friends and family.

It’s for people (suckers) who thought twitter was ever good
safe space for libs where they can delay the realization that nobody like them or their ideology any more
