Giant Robo has such a good fucking design by Makoto Kobayashi. I wonder if Exodia from Yu-Gi-Oh is based on the '70s manga/tokusatsu or even the anime design here.

If I remember right, they didn’t have the full licensing rights for Giant Robo, so they mixed in a bunch of random stuff from the manga creators’ works (like a bunch of Three Kingdoms characters etc).
Definitely gives the “kid playing with dad’s old toys” vibe that ties in with the dedication to fathers and children lol

Imagawa has worked on some other pretty fun anime. I’m a pretty big fan of Getter Robo Armageddon, but I was introduced to him via Mobile Fighter G Gundam.
Yeah, I gotta’ watch Ideon sometime too. I’m going to watch Gunbuster next, I think.
