  • “cartilage does stop growing. However, cartilage is made of collagen and other fibers that begin to break down as we age.

The result is drooping. So what appears to be growth is just gravity doing its job. Our noses and our earlobes sag and become larger. Adding to the misconception is what happens to other parts of our face. While our nose might sag, our cheeks and lips actually lose volume, making everything else look comparatively larger.”

  • Annoyingly, it gets through the entire article pretty much without explaining what the hell JLCPCB is, assuming that you must know what they are. It appears to be a Chinese PCB (printed circuit board) manufacturer, where you can send them a schematic and they will make a PCB of whatever you desire. It appears that they are now limiting who they take orders from, and it seems likely that other Chinese PCB manufacturers will take the same step in the future.

Overall I enjoy reading Hackaday’s articles, But this was too much “inside baseball” since they didn’t bother explaining what JLCPCB was.

  • Honestly, you’ve got a couple things going on

    1. Probably (I’m not checking) a lot of it is being posted by the mod, who is trying to get engagement in hopes of getting more people to post. And it’s HARD. Both coming up with enough content, much less very targeted (“memes”)
    2. if you do come up with a alternative community, you’re going to see a lot of cross posting
    3. people aren’t necessarily looking to see which community it came from, it just came across their feed, it’s cute, they upvote. If I posted a cute bad on superbowl the mod would yank it for being offtopic, but people would upvote it assuming it’s in an appropriate subreddit because that’s what they’ve signed up for. (Which is a similar problem with aww vs pics , I’d imagine)

And yeah, not a lot of memes, but the mod is trying their damndest since it’s hard getting a community to be active enough (less than 1% ever post, from what I can tell, and it’s hard to tell active counts based on subscriber counts )

I wish I had better options for you. My bet would be 50% of the people here would also join yours, but people would still be very casual about upvoting things.

But thanks for the kick - I need to go post.
