(Or I guess I should say “when they were bad” because they’ve been good many times.)

TheRealKuni@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•Brazil's top court rules US laws do not apply to its territoryEnglish57·3 days agoNo no, Brazil, you’re failing to understand how hegemony works. You see, we aren’t colonizing you, you’re independent. No imperialism here. But if you do something we don’t like…well, let’s just say you should do what we like.
TheRealKuni@piefed.socialto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Planning on buying a SteamDeck. What should I know before purchasing? English1·3 days agoAn etched screen protector can help, but isn’t as nice as the native etched glass. The underlying screen is the same OLED as the 512GB, I believe.
The OLED model is also just better. Got a few minor upgrades other than the screen. Faster RAM, better battery life, slightly lighter. Maybe some other changes.
TheRealKuni@piefed.socialto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Planning on buying a SteamDeck. What should I know before purchasing? English8·3 days agoYou can get an etched glass screen protector that emulates the effect. The one I got isn’t as good as the base screen (which is essentially perfect), it has a very small amount of color scrambling if you look really closely due to the nature of the etching, but it’s not bad and I got used to it quickly.
TheRealKuni@piefed.socialto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Planning on buying a SteamDeck. What should I know before purchasing? English5·3 days agoThat’s fair, but I can tell you from experience there’s no way it’s going to fall out during the lifetime of that elastic. I say this because it’s mildly annoying to extract it (which, admittedly, isn’t an issue with a dedicated pocket).
TheRealKuni@piefed.socialto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Planning on buying a SteamDeck. What should I know before purchasing? English8·3 days agoI think not having room for the charger is a valid complaint.
It fits great in the elastic-covered spot on the back, especially if you use something like this.
TheRealKuni@piefed.socialto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Planning on buying a SteamDeck. What should I know before purchasing? English37·3 days agoGet the 1TB with the etched screen if you’re considering it. It looks fantastic, and works great when not indoors. Like, in a car or airplane for example. I was debating between it and the 512GB because I often prefer a glossy screen, but the effect is small yet mighty.
Also, get Moonlight on your Steam Deck and Apollo on your PC. You can stream games from your PC with Apollo to Moonlight at much higher quality than Steam’s own streaming system. I send 1440p to my deck so after chroma subsampling I get fully defined 1280x720 pixels. It looks significantly better than just sending 1280x720 or 1280x800 to the Deck.
And finally, pick up Geometry Wars 3. It’s like the perfect pick-up-and-put-down game for the Deck.

TheRealKuni@piefed.socialto Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•What's your thoughts on this?English68·5 days agoKind of a weird message. The paltry amount of energy my screen time uses pales in comparison to the footprint left by massive careless corporations and the ultra-wealthy, and it would be far more effective at helping the environment to convince them to make even small adjustments.
Putting the onus on the average person just seems cruel. It leads to people like my wife desperate to do every little minor thing she can to adjust her footprint, making almost no difference in the grand scheme, while the real causes continue on unabated.
TheRealKuni@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Game's main character: better as your own clay figure write-in, their own person with none of your agency, or something in-between?English8·6 days agoDepends entirely on the story being told. All can be impactful.
Games where the main character is a blank slate can allow you to build meaningful relationships and aspects to your character, but it takes a lot more work from the devs to flesh out those story branches. When done well, it’s excellent. Mass Effect did a good job with this. Skyrim is an example where it’s well done but with less of a rigid framework and therefore less specific handling by the story.
Games that have a specific character but still allow you to shape their path can be beautiful. The ending of Red Dead Redemption 2 has audio callbacks to important decisions you made during the game that shaped who your version of Arthur Morgan was, and it brought tears to my eyes.
And games where the decisions are set in stone and the character development is entirely in the hands of the writer, director, and actor, like a movie, can still be phenomenal. God of War (2018) and Ragnarok are excellent examples.
TheRealKuni@piefed.socialto Comics@lemmy.ml•Bello Bear Non Sequiturs, Bit 5: Bunny BattleEnglish2·6 days agojust kicking his fun-sized butt all over the place.
Fun fact! Napoleon wasn’t actually short, but the perception of him being short exists for a few reasons.
First, his height was 5’2” in French measurement. The Brits, always quick to mock the French, jumped on this. In Imperial measurement, he would’ve been 5’7” or so. Average height at the time was around 5’5”. But by pretending his height was 5’2” in Imperial, the British could literally “belittle” the man.
Second, he was always around soldiers. Soldiers are often taller than the average population, as a larger size provides benefits in physicality. So he is frequently portrayed surrounded by taller people.
Me too!
