Technology@lemmy.world•Half of teenage girls in Japan consult AI about their problems; less than 30% of men in any age group doEnglish
12·29 days agoThis is why they’re pouring hundreds of billions into AI. We don’t even need AGI when you can slowly convince everyone to offload their thinking to an LLM. Then who controls the AI can use it to nudge people in whatever direction.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone else tired of guessing at how to make life better for a majority of people like its your personal life mission or something?
4·1 month agoPlease don’t be angry, but your post title could be interpreted as though you’re fed up with guessing on how to make someone (and others) happy. That sort of people that will never be happy and feed off others, thus the codependency mention by the earlier comment.
It’s clear from other comments of yours that you meant the world and political situation and so on.
I don’t think the previous commenter meant it in a bad way.

AFAIK you can only encrypt the connection to the AI and promise to not keep any logs, but the AI needs to ingest readable data. So whomever owns the hardware can see what’s being fed into it. Yeah you can mix instances and chat history and not link the requests to any one person but it will never be completely private.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Dave Chappelle says his trans jokes 'went down well' at Saudi Arabia gigEnglish
37·5 months agoI’ve only watched his Netflix specials and his old Dave Chapelle show. Maybe he made some public statements that I’m unaware of where he publicly stated being against trans people. I don’t actually follow him on any sort of media. If that’s the case I apologise and look forward to being corrected with links and stuff.
None of his shows that I’ve seen (and I’ve tried to see them all online) contain anything but jokes and the occasional heart to heart. So that’s why he seems like a great guy to me. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
But if the jokes in his comedy specials are the cause of the internet hate against him then I’m gonna have to continue to disagree with that sentiment.

728·5 months agoYeah, you weren’t, but I’m quite sure he’s not transphobic. But you need to actually watch his shows to get that. Also he’s a comedian, he can joke about whatever he wants, he’s not making anyone’s life harder. And he finds that ppl flaming him for his trans jokes is funny. Anyway, I highly recommend his shows.

Hey, can you give ms some details or guide for your setup. I want to get a cheap pc and put truenas on it and then I’ll need a way to connect to it but I’d rather not use zerotier or tailscale cos they don’t feel that private to me. Also could you tell me what the big deal is with piHole? (I have proton VPN for tracker blockers and stuff like that)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why does it seem like so many (young) men these days flock over to types like Andrew Tate?
1·1 year agoAnother possible reason may be online dating.
Most people use online dating. Average looking men have very low chances to get a match because of : The much lower number of women on these platforms compared to men; which leads to the logical consequence of men lowering standards to increase their chances of getting a match; which of course leads to women being more selective causing a feedback loop that compounds on itself. So only the highly attractive men get a lot of likes and this leads to them being promiscuous which makes women think all men are assholes. And because finding a date is easy for women it’s also very easy to ghost men for the smallest things.
And this whole system is also propped up by the Match group which owns all major dating apps in order to squeeze out as much as they can out of desperate people, basically monetizing loneliness.
When you swipe and swipe for months and only get one date and get ghosted right after, you start to devalue yourself, what other explanation can there be except that as a man you are horrible. And you spiral into depression and blame yourself (when in fact the whole system is wrong and is bad for both men and women).
Then suddenly comes a macho man who tells you that women are the problem, that it’s not you (and that they also have courses to sell that will make you finally get women), of course you’re gonna believe him, finally a way out of depression. A wrong way, a shitty way, but a way nonetheless.
These people are hurt and are acting out in the wrong way, leading to more hurting. And people like Andrew Tate are getting rich off of it.
PS: A long time ago OkCupid had you answering between 20 and a few hundreds of questions, plus answers you’d expect from your potential partner, plus how important that question is for you; and then it would show you a list of matched in order of compatibility. It was amazing. (but it got bought out by Match and turned into a tinder clone).

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How many people are only still alive because they don't want their suicide hurting others as much as they hurt every day?
433·1 year agoJust like eating only junk food is bad for your body, so is current news bad for the mind. I suggest you seek out actually positive news channels on YouTube or smth. We live in a very shitty world but there is still so much good in it. There is free open source software out there, there is volunteer work, there are people who give time, money, energy to worthy causes, with nothing to gain. And that’s worth fighting for (Mr Frodo)!
If everything I see in the news all the time makes me feel like the world is shit, well that’s just unhealthy.
So I’ve subscribed to some good news channels on YouTube, and I try to limit the amount of bad news that I digest.
Staying informed of what’s going on in the world is great, but not if it comes at the price of your sanity.
So read some good news, write a list of things you’re grateful for, take a walk in a park, meditate in the sun a bit, and remember that overall people are kind (free open source software exists, volunteering exists, food banks exist, etc).
I somewhat agree with you. And I 150% agree that “rent seeking behavior” doesn’t add to society.
But what if you want to sell a product you designed but can’t afford to create it or to setup a factory for it, so you want funding, so you try to get investments, maybe by selling equity in your company. Is that not valuable to society? The people that take the risk that your product may not sell?

Without having dug too deeply into it, shouldn’t this be easy to fool by just wearing something conductive under your clothes? And for normal gait/body shape it’s easy to fool. But I guess the intent is to ID most ppl, not all ppl.
