2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
Great shave. I especially enjoyed The Stank™ today. And I have officially become a straight razor snob about own shaving. I have a safety razor collection that I really like, but now I feel like using a safety razor is a little like putting training wheels back on a bicycle. It’s always something 🙄

I generally agree with the sentiment, but I still cannot shave the moustache area as well with a straight as with a DE 🤷
I have tinkered with technique so much that, now, I get my best shaves with a straight; including the mouth and chin areas.

As November is near, the obvious solution to this problem is to not shave it at all and grow a moustache. You’re welcome 🥸 ( /s , in case it wasn’t obvious)
Or, you can do BBS November, shave twice a day, and work on different ways to get that moustache area close and comfortably shaved.
Moustache and Vokuhila? Ambitious aims 😍
The notorious New Kids Turbo look. Or alternatively: every second twenty-something video essayist on YouTube 😂

- Razor: J.A. Henckels Friodur 72
- Lather: Saponificio Varesino Tundra Artica
- Postshave: Naissance 702 Witch Hazel
- Postshave: TFS Witch Hazel & Oak
- Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm
I wondered whether I would do a Zingari Zischtig, but then I went for Tundra Artica. The Friodur felt very sharp and good on the first pass, but it is quite light, and it didn’t feel the best ATG.
Have a good evening!

I picked up this puck of Tabac on a recent trip to Belgium. It was sorta fun being able to buy it in a regular store.
I also have the tallow version of this soap and have been very curious to test out the difference myself. I haven't used the tallow version since August, but maybe I'll use it tomorrow to see how much of a difference there really is.
Worth mentioning that I heard recently there are now 2 different versions of the vegan soap. This is the most recent iteration, with ingredients as follows:
Ingredients: Potassium Stearate, Sodium Stearate, Potassium Laurate, Sodium Laurate, Aqua, Glycerin, Parfum, Palm Kernel Acid, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Potassium Palm Kernelate, Limonene, Hydroxycitronellal, CI 77891, Linalool, Citronellol, Coumarin, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Salicylate, Geraniol, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Isoeugenol, Benzyl Alcohol, Citral, Eugenol, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Tetrasodium Iminodisuccinate.
I thought the soap was great! I made sure to load plenty of soap, as it's relatively firm. I like to load dry (damp, really) and heavy and it works for pretty much all soaps. The lather wasn't fluffy, foamy, etc. It was nice, creamy, relatively dense. Slickness was totally acceptable.
One other thing I noticed was that when rinsing my face, my skin was squeaky clean. Apparently not an indicator of it being drying, because my skin feels totally normal now.
Verdict? Still worth trying in my opinion, and if you like the scent of Tabac (who doesn't?!) and need a refill, I say go for it.
I don’t need a refill - but I have the impression that the vegan formula improves with time, so probably no harm in waiting

- Razor: Leaf Thorn; KAI Captain J-7 shavette
- Blade: Derby Premium half DE (Thorn); KAI Captain Protouch MG (J-7)
- Lather: Barrister & Mann - The Full Measure of Man
- Post-Shave: Zingari Man - The Master recovery splash
- Passes & Info: 1 pass + buffing on the head; 2 on the face around a full goatee. Minor irritation on the face, otherwise ok.
Finally a use of the kamivette again, even though my technique is still lacking. I’ve come to terms with the fact that a circle beard/full goatee/doorknocker is the fullest beard I’ll ever be able to achieve, so it’s back to this finally after growing my stubble out. The tamed variant with hard edges is my preference though, so this was a good use case for the shavette.
Unfortunately, my face already felt a bit rough after the trim earlier today. So I gave it some time to recover before actually shaving. I picked a soap that’s very slick and went to work. One theory of mine was that I should treat my head and face shaves like different entities altogether, even if I do them at the same time. The lather on the face should be more hydrated/thin than what I prefer on the dome. Unfortunately, my lather was a bit too wet in general today and not up to my usual standard. I don’t put the fault on B+M, as it was clearly my user error. While the head shave was done rather fast, I had to take my time on the face. Especially since I currently still try out different techniques of holding the kamivette - the FAFO period, as walden dubbed it. First pass wasn’t bad, but then I dropped the kamivette and the blade had to be binned. So I finished my 2nd pass with the Thorn, who is thankfully also nimble enough for good contouring.
End result: a few blood spots, some minor redness on the neck. But nothing that the recovery splash and a soothing moisturizer couldn’t fix. I should actually be able to shave again tomorrow and that’s a bit of progress!

I filed a bug report with Baserow about special characters not being sent properly. Crossing my fingers they know how to fix it!
I’ve tested sending the same type of characters using cURL and everything works correctly, so the problem is in Baserow somewhere.
