I think the manga executed the “manju kowai” joke better. You see this episode from the viewpoint of the other shop owner and he’s utterly confused by all the impossible things Kurt did.
Kurt managed to foil the meticulous plan by getting employed as the Margrave’s chef in the short time before Lise arrived at their meeting.
