Hey everyone,
I’m a developer. I built an app called Flaresat.
While ATAK is the gold standard, I saw a need for a lightweight for when you need to get people on a map instantly without configuring a server or installing APKs. Also the experience for Tak on IOS is not the best. For now this is a web tool, I am working on getting the app approved for App Store and Google Store.
What it does:
- Real-time location tracking for the group.
- Collaborative drawing (Routes, Areas/Polygons, Waypoints).
- Markers support descriptions, custom colors, and icons.
- Invite Code system. Supports “Public” links for readonly/spectator views (good for TOC/Base configurations).
- Works natively on iOS, Android, and PC browsers.
Architecture: It is entirely web-based. For Now.
- 4G/LTE (WebSocket).
- Roadmap: I am actively working on Meshtastic integration to bridge off-grid LoRa telemetry into the web map.
Why I’m posting here: I know this isn’t a replacement for CivTAK, but I’m looking for feedback from power users on the UI and mapping capabilities.

Is it going to be open source? And if so, are you putting it on fdroid?
It will not be open sourced and if I put the APK people will criticize the security of it so it will be published on Google play
Okay, gotcha. It looks interesting, but without being open source, I won’t touch it and won’t recommend anybody else touch it.
Totally I understand your concerns. I am just starting out. I was thinking also of maybe end to end encryption where that part can be open source. My issue with open source isn’t about hiding something. It’s about being able to make some money :)
It’s going to be hard to get money from hams, they already spent everything on a new radio 😏
Hahaha fair point
Fair point, unless we live in the star trek world, everyone needs to pay their groceries.
I’d still disagree about the apk, but that’s your choice
I appreciate your suggestion
