depending on where your USA airport is, I would recommend a stop in Tokyo on the way back instead of stopping in North America. lots of flights and it’s a great place for a quick food-focused layover (especially if you can land and take off in Haneda which is much closer to the city). 20 mins from Haneda you can be eating top tier ramen
