sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.ioto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why can't we have a static vintage web?2·9 hours agoNo worries it wasn’t an attack on you or your totally fair question. I’m no where near knowledgeable enough to give any valid responses to the inquiry, I just thought I’d share why I feel like I (we?) need it. I wanted to do X for my community and I was told I need Y to do it, thus for me for this use case its necessary. That’s all I was sayin.

sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.ioto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why can't we have a static vintage web?3·10 hours agoI made a Gemini site once and then I was like “that was fun” and then it was over. 😅
sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.ioto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why can't we have a static vintage web?11·11 hours agoI run a website where my community and I all contribute to a free shared database that houses settings for machines we can use. I don’t know how I’d really do that without managing every single submission manually. I think that like all things there’s a way to use js responsibly.
I’m on arch so its the highlight of every morning 🤣

sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.ioto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Google Calls ICE Agents a Vulnerable Group, Removes ICE-Spotting App ‘Red Dot’English7·15 hours agoIdk I started using organicmaps (comaps now) long long ago. I guess I don’t have a great fundamental understanding of search. Are not most other search engines just hopping on the back of google search engines? I honestly don’t know. Its not an area I’ve spent a lot of time learning about - or maybe I’m just a backwards dude haha.
sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.ioto Technology@lemmy.world•Discord customer service data breach leaks user info and scanned photo IDsEnglish6·15 hours agoIts a good suggestion and something I’ve considered. Unfortunately we’re using conduit as our server and that type of integration doesn’t seem to work well outside of synapse. That said I know some people have gotten it working I just need to dig a little deeper. It’s a chore for sure but it seems like the only path forward.
sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.ioto Technology@lemmy.world•Discord customer service data breach leaks user info and scanned photo IDsEnglish321·16 hours agoI wish I could convince my giant discord community to go anywhere else. It’s so fucking hard. I’ve built IRC networks and a matrix server. I host every fediverse app imaginable. I hate being attached to this company and my income being reliant on it.
sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.ioto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Google Calls ICE Agents a Vulnerable Group, Removes ICE-Spotting App ‘Red Dot’English48·16 hours agoSomeone recommended Kagi in another thread yesterday and that night I finally became 100% google free. Search was the last big hurdle. I was literally the biggest google fanboy. I had google home devices, google wifi, I wanted all their devices, had all their services, everything was set up and integrated. De-googling was fucking hard but I did it and I’m super proud and I’ve learned so much about how tech works setting up my replacement services and devices. Fuck you Google.

What would you do with them?English1·7 days agoI’ve been curious about running a hardware firewall/router, I’ve seen it discussed but don’t know much about it. I also hear a lot of people swear by their proxmox setups but I am a complete noob there so again more research would be required. What I’ve heard about running a proxmox setup has looked overwhelming at a glance.

sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.ioOPto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Spare mini PCs? What would you do with them?English1·7 days agolol I haven’t heard the “RAID is not a backup” before but it’s true I’ll have to see how I would manage that and what data would be a good candidate for this implementation.
sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.ioOPto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Spare mini PCs? What would you do with them?English2·7 days agoI have a ton of handhelds I usually use for this purpose and a pretty powerful workstation I use to run heavier games but I’ve thought about like a tv box setup for doing such activities in the living room. Could be fun.
sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.ioOPto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Spare mini PCs? What would you do with them?English2·7 days agoAnother good suggestion. I’ll have to look into how to get this set up I haven’t tackled something like this before.

Indeed, seems the only path forward. Thansk for sharing.
