I feel that. Normal day to day life: a million things to juggle and I don’t even know where to start. Crisis: one thing to worry about so I go all hyper focus–100% of neurons are all engaged toward singular purpose.
So just stop oil then. Who are they asking to “just stop oil”? The people getting rich from it? They’re not gonna stop because you ask nicely. You’re gonna have to make them.
These people don’t respond to public pressure. They only understand that the line is going up. If you want the line to go down, you’re going to have to increase costs. These industries have a lot of very expensive poorly guarded infrastructure so it really isn’t that hard to increase costs.
I’m sure most people know that, so again, why don’t you just stop oil then. I’m adverse to long prison sentences so if you’re so passionate for the cause, go nuts.
But they won’t. They’ll protest and make a fuss and then drive home in their cars like the rest of us. And that’s pretty annoying.
Oh and potato chips? Forget about it. Dill pickle, salt and vinegar, ketchup… We can’t be expected to go on without ketchup chips. Looks like big red has got us this time boys. 😋
Now you’re just being hyperbolic 😅
And when their powers combine, they form megaorca, eater of cruise ships.
Then there would be fewer of them, which is objectively better for all life on this planet. Seems fine tbh.
It’s a combination of factors. That could be one of them. There’s also the onset of an El Nino climate pattern, the reversal of the aerosol cooling effect from changes to low sulphur shipping fuels, spiking methane emissions, some effect from the water vapour injected into the stratosphere by that underwater volcano a few years back, and we seem to be speed-running past tipping points. It’s a lovely potpourri of doom we have wrought.

Yeah but who cares? Twitter was dead the second Elon bought it and we all knew it.
$250,000 a seat tourist submarine… The ocean can have them.
Kinda hilarious that Butler thought everyone would lose their homes to drugged up pyromaniacs rather than the reality: the homes will still exist just no one will be able to afford to live in them. Maybe she figured that this would be too unbelievable for readers to engage with.
I suspect the US’s path might be like Parable, with a big spoonful of The Water Knife and a dash of Ministry of the Future.
Tech needs a union. Yes, tech workers get paid pretty well. But we really need more say in how the products of our labour are being used. I don’t know how to work in this industry and be an ethical person anymore, and “change from within” doesn’t work when you don’t have a seat at the big boys’ table.
When I started my career, I thought the internet would bring knowledge and enlightenment. It was a just cause. I guess I was just another brainwashed tech utopian. Now it’s getting hard to find a job building something that isn’t an obvious scam or a way to fuck over the working class.
