onlooker@lemmy.mltodatahoarder@lemmy.ml•Myrient is shutting down on March 31st, 2026 (best ROM preservation and hosting site with over 390 terabytes)
10·9 days agoUgh, a dagger in my heart. That sucks, I really like Myrient. Anyone know what their Discord and/or Telegram channels have to say about this? I don’t have an account for either (nor do I want one).

Linux@lemmy.ml•"The Internet Was Weeks Away From Disaster and No One Knew" - Veritasium
551·10 days agoMuch obliged for the link. Personally, I can’t stand the guy. Not only does he lean into sensationalism too much for my liking, but at least one of his videos - the one with Waymo - is just flat out advertising.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•watching age-restricted videos from youtube without google account
8·20 days agoBad news, I’m afraid. Tried opening a few restricted videos with PipePipe, FreeTube, tried downloading with yt-dlp, nothing works. YouTube is being locked down.

Security@lemmy.ml•Fake 7-Zip downloads are turning home PCs into proxy nodes
9·26 days agoFollowing a YouTube tutorial for a new build, they were instructed to download 7‑Zip from 7zip[.]com, unaware that the legitimate project is hosted exclusively at 7-zip.org.
My heart goes out to the poor, unsuspecting new PC owner and at the same time: fuck YouTube tutorials. It’s basically Russian roulette: either the information is solid or you get shit like this. YouTube doesn’t vet videos, nor does it have any interest in doing so, unless profits are somehow involved.
Thanks for explaining. But unless I’m missing something, Conduit doesn’t seem to be quite dead just yet. I got upgrade notifications throughout 2025, the latest two being in December; one for v0.10.10 and the other for v0.10.11.
Wait a sec, I run Conduit on my test machine and seems fine so far. What drama did I miss?
Why not Synapse?
Played it on DOS. However, I never finished it, because the music level was such a bastard. Any kind of traction between Rayman and the ground was gone, so you’re slipping and sliding everywhere, and when you weren’t, you were basically running into spikes. To top it off, the level layout was confusing as hell. Eventually, after many attempts, I got to the boss of the music level. Once. And just like the levels preceding it, the boss was hard to beat, too! In the end, I got frustrated and just bounced off.

There are! It’s just that they’re buried in the heavens and historically speaking the sky is really hard to dig up.

Thanks for this. The message is really disheartening to read. But points #2 and #3 in particular just piss me off. Just shitty moves all around and of course AI is somehow involved in this. We can’t ever have nice things, man.
