I’m pretty sure this is a prank because I’ve gotten tested for colourblindness, but this is a hilarious prank.

2·24 days agoImo fining all profits made by using misleading practices is just as disincentivising without introducing the instability that immediate business death brings. I’m gonna stop trying to convince you of this though, I think we just differ on some fundamentals.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canadian Tire ordered to pay nearly $1.3 million for false advertising | Globalnews.ca
1·24 days agoSure, that’s an easier way of doing it. I don’t really have a problem with that except that it can easily kill a business to fine their total profits if the period is long enough.

2·24 days agoYou responded to someone saying it’s really difficult to quantify by asking why they should even base the fine off this quantification. I explained why, and your response is, “yeah but it’s too hard to quantify.” No shit Sherlock.

2·24 days agoBecause they’re fining based on the legality of one specific trick, so it makes sense to dis-incentivise that specific trick by fining the entire profit made off that specific trick (plus some).

This is so funny because I’m Indian and I’ve never come across a Hindi sub on Reddit.

News@lemmy.world•The Super Bowl Was Already Getting Political. Now Green Day Have Entered the Chat
106·1 month agoEverything that you hate Preceded by Makes halfway decent music on occasion Subjective vs objective. There is no agreed-upon good music, Bad Bunny is hugely famous, obviously a large number of people don’t hate his music or new pop. Green Day makes music that a lot of oldheads can still enjoy, in part because they’ve been making music for like 30 years.

Technology@lemmy.world•Dell says the quiet part out loud: Consumers don't actually care about AI PCs — "AI probably confuses them more than it helps them"English
34·2 months agoTrying to isolate out “emotional baggage” is not how language works. A term means something and applies somewhere. Generative models do not have the capacity to hallucinate. If you need to apply a human term to a non-human technology that pretends to be human, you might want to use the term “confabulate” because hallucination is a response to stimulus while confabulation is, in simple terms, bullshitting.

28·2 months agoIt doesn’t, it generates incorrect information. This is because AI doesn’t think or dream, it’s a generative technology that outputs information based on whatever went in. It can’t hallucinate because it can’t think or feel.

World News@lemmy.world•Paedophile teacher who had sex with two boys is struck offEnglish
1·2 months agoAnd I’m disagreeing that pedophiles can’t help their feelings. This dialogue only occurs because of the recent conflation between sexuality and pedophilia. I’ve always been of the opinion that they need to see a professional, and that needs to be a non-negotiable. I reject any conversation on their feelings being a choice because as evidenced in this thread, people conflate ideas that apply to sexuality to pedophiles. I just responded to someone who accused me of arguing for conversion therapy. It’s pedophilia, it needs to stay stigmatised because of how huge the consequences are if they act on it.

1·2 months agoIt is important to mind the language we use and how it affects things and people. Softening language around pedophilia does not serve a better society. I agree that society is harsh on pedophiles. It is rightfully so, because the consequence of acting on these thoughts is massive for the other. Harshness is necessary because these thoughts should be treated as vile, repulsive, and something to get rid of. It is tricky to approach seeking help with something perceived as repulsive, but pedophiles can take solace that counsellors are confidential, trained professionals who will refer them to someone else if they cannot handle the subject.

World News@lemmy.world•Paedophile teacher who had sex with two boys is struck offEnglish
11·2 months agoIf there is a conscious being that cannot consent, object, or otherwise appropriately respond to one’s attraction, then that attraction should not be held onto. Ways should be explored to move past that attraction, whether they be through counselling or self reflection.

1·2 months ago“MAP” is not a part of queer communities or cultures, stop trying to make that the case. First off we need to stop softening the language around them and call them pedophiles, because that’s what they are, whether they act upon it or not. They should seek therapy because sexual attraction to children is not an acceptable part of society.

What the hell are boy cooties. Who says that past like 10 years old.
Duh everyone would wash a secondhand item of clothing before wearing it.
