  • <<cracks knuckles>> Aww yeah time for me to cishetorally weigh in on this.

    1. This dude absolutely would get annoyed if someone were aggressively misgendering him at work or whatever regular social interactions he has. It is disrespectful and he’d take it as such. It would become an issue.

1b. Boys in our culture are brought up with at least two important rules of masculinity which is 1- don’t be a girl and 2- don’t be gay. Boys (or adults, shamefully) calling other boys girls as an insult is 100% part of teasing & bullying and teaching gendered behavior. There is no way there was not a time in this man’s life when calling him a girl was fighting words.

    1. (And I want to be respectful when discussing bodies and preferences) This focus on boobs and genitals primary and secondary sexual characteristics feels a bit reductive and objectifying. A straight man likes women (allegedly) and knows how to interact romantically with a woman, and if he were attracted to a trans-woman then her anatomy is what it is. Whereas for a straight man in relation to a to a trans-man, well it doesn’t matter what his anatomy is because he wouldn’t know how to interact romantically with another fella.

  • I’ll have to educate myself on whether common resources really do become depleted through mismanagement, but I can say that all the formally educated people who sold me that idea hadn’t heard of things like the Enclosure Acts. I’m just going off the cuff here but I know that swathes of North America when the settlers arrived were a paradise on earth thanks to intensive management by the indigenous people they dispossessed, this wasn’t some untamed wilderness. Someone here shared something the other week from a Scots socialist lamenting that landowners had displaced thousands of tenants from the highlands to depopulate their land holdings to create the lords’ preferred wilderness.

  • I also don’t know anything about anything, and I’m not going to write off the conspiratorial angles, but the idea he was wearing a vest and the bullet ricocheted is confusing to me. If he was wearing soft armor, the thirty ought would’ve gone straight through and probably back out the other side. Am I supposed to believe he was wearing some super secret squirrel plates that’ll stop a rifle round but don’t show under a t-shirt, was hit in the upper torso, then the bullet ricocheted up and then diagonally or laterally through his neck? I don’t want to be gruesome, I don’t know what the entry and exit wounds on that should look like. If’n it were the camera behind him then how come it done gone out t’o’er side?

Edit: Likewise, if this boy Tyler hunted, 200 meter ain’t nothin’, that’s point blank range. And with taking an animal a good shooter’d have’ta say a prayer to the creator an’a spirit o’ the animal he kilt, but when one take a Charlie’s life one ain’t’n needin’t’a have none such compassion.

  • I think that normalizing that it’s okay to have fun at the expense of these things we’re supposed to be so reverential about has utility. Obviously your coworkers were ready for it and didn’t know you can just like, YOLO it out there like that.

I have a friend who I wouldn’t call normie, they’ve got good politics and know I’m leftist, but is certainly not online like your average hexbear. When I talked to them on the 10th and hit them with a “hawk Utah bleed on that thang,” stolen from u/segfault11, they were kinda like wow too soon, but every day after that I could get a sensible chuckle with an OwO what’s this or an if you read this you are gay LMAO. Not to say real life shitposting is going to shift muh Overton window but I think you tapped into something.

  • With the US forces withdrawing from Afghanistan a few events stick out to me. Missile-striking a man and IIRC his children because he was doing door to door deliveries of meals or water to people who needed aid. The attack at the Kabul airport that killed I think north of a hundred people, but all Western media talked about was ThE tHiRtEeN as they wanted to wave the bloody shirt over the service members that were killed. That also may have involved occupation forces firing into the crowd, which they definitely would want to cover up.

I remember our media class going after Brandon for pulling out, but hey!, this was already negotiated, set up under Trump 1st term, and it’s good to end a 20 year occupation! Plus the ANA was collapsing and Taliban rapidly advancing territory so what even could the US and Afghan govt have done. And yeah sanctioning Afghanistan after the withdrawal is just damning people to starve.
