  • There seemed to be a lot of coordination and unusual behavior surrounding this event. We know that feds use PDF compromat to control assets, and this really smells like a potential instance of someone using fed resources to get an asset to do a false flag.

They want to expedite trial and execute this kid, so I bet he has something to say. If the PDF compromat is revealed while he can still talk, and he does have something to say, it would all come out then.

Would it be wrong to fabricate PDF compromat on the kid and leak it just to see what he says…

  • I actually quit playing when they introduced planeswalkers and just returned to the game in the last couple of years. I’m honestly not sure why I made either decision. I just sort of rediscovered my love for the game randomly a few years ago. I do feel like I missed out on a lot of stuff by being out of it for such a long time.

You’re not wrong, the business design stuff does suck.

For me I think I’m more surprised that the game is still around and right now I’m happy that it is. I wish it was easier to get the old cards that I played with in the beginning.

  • I understand the point you were going for with Funko pops, and I’m sure it wasn’t a real suggestion, but do you have similar feelings for things like final fantasy or avatar? Fandoms are cringe, but not everyone who feels more comfortable giving magic a try because it references things they are deeply familiar with is cringe. They also won’t all connect with you on a spiritual level either, but plenty are fine people.

I like the game. I think it’s great. Maybe the ultimate board/card game even. I like the magic universe as well, but it’s second to the game itself for me. Being able to compare it to something like Funko pops sucks with all the brand deals, but magic is still a great game to me and not just a cheap plastic simulacrum of someone’s beloved childhood IP.

  • That’s true. You really can’t just ignore them because some of them have potentially huge game breaking cards in some formats.

I’ve talked to a lot of people who said they were curious about magic for a while and the x ip was the thing that finally pushed them off the fence. There are people who came in for lotr still playing the game and that’s the thing I saw that finally got me to give up most of the hate.

  • The UB stuff brings in so many more people to the game. A bunch of people who got in just for final fantasy are still showing up at my lgs every week. I hated it too but it’s really hard to argue against after seeing all the new people become regular players because of it. It is doing more for the game than just print more money, even if that’s the only reason Hasbro is doing it.

Would I prefer no UB to what we have now? Yes, almost certainly, but it’s not all bad. I’m enjoying the larger community at my lgs and I’m just going to ignore the sets I’m not into.
