It’s the year of the desktop inside Linux
I’m used to the dot from all programming languages. And also the comma interferes with the CSV (comma separated values) file format. For the thousands separator, my favourite is the apostrophe.

This is a pet peeve of mine, but no. All three words forlorn (English), verloren (Dutch), and verloren (German) have the same origin, but none derive from another.
