That’s an extremely subjective statement.
Jerkface (any/all)@lemmy.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmy, what's the meaning, or point if you prefer, of life? I know 42, but I'm serious. Nothing lasts, everything is meaningless - are we just amusing ourselves until death?English2·21 hours agoYou are asking as a mind alienated from its body. Your body has interests that are not your interests, and it uses suffering to bend you to advance its interests for it. We all exist in a state of conflict with our own biological inheritance.
Our bodies generate a mind to suffer on its behalf, because without awareness it isn’t really capable of suffering. That is the point of your existence as a mind. You exist to suffer on behalf of something that is not capable of suffering on its own, so that by your aversion to suffering, you will make choices that are in the interests of your body.
You have to decide whether to simply adopt the interests of your body, or whether to try to hold on to your own interests and make that the point of your life.
Also, “The experiences of non-human animals are real and matter. Their suffering is identical in nature to your own. It harms us when we take pleasure in cruelty and violence.”

Jerkface (any/all)@lemmy.cato No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come nobody does anything about North Korea?English74·2 days agoIt’s not a tu quoque when NK isn’t hurting anyone but themselves and the Americans are burning down the fucking planet. One is an urgent situation, the other is political theatre that most of us are unqualified to even analyze due to the embargoes, censorship and pervasive propaganda.
Being worried about rumors that:
they also execute/punish people(and their family members) for trying to leave the country for good or talk shit about their supreme leader
from a tiny, insignificant backwater nation when the so called leader of the free world is disappearing people from potentially every country on Earth, when the most powerful trading nation is intentionally destabilizing the global economy, well it reeks of looking for a distraction. The US government has as much to do with what is happening to NK people right now as the NK government does.
Jerkface (any/all)@lemmy.cato Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•If cyclists are meant to "share the road" then why aren't they held to the same safety standards as cars?English3·2 days agoIt’s situational surely, and I think an experienced cyclist knows when to take the sidewalk. But an experience cyclist also needs to know that sidewalks ARE NOT SAFE, they are just a less unsafe alternative when road conditions become intolerably unsafe, and they need to use even more caution than they normally do on the road when they take that option.
Jerkface (any/all)@lemmy.cato Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•If cyclists are meant to "share the road" then why aren't they held to the same safety standards as cars?English3·2 days agoRight of way crossings are extremely dangerous, and riding on the sidewalk creates more such crossings that are even more dangerous than the ones encountered on the road, because drivers don’t have the visibility to anticipate the cyclist. Riding through right of way crossings where drivers expect pedestrians gets you killed.

Jerkface (any/all)@lemmy.cato Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•If cyclists are meant to "share the road" then why aren't they held to the same safety standards as cars?English4·3 days agoTo address your question pragmatically, because the next best option most of the time is to be on the sidewalk, and cyclists die more often per km cycled on the sidewalk than on the road.
Oh, I see. Who is that?
