If it helps, I’ve consciously made the choice to see the world as it appears to be. To interact with others, as if they truly exist. I’ve also made the choice to anchor my own morals in my own mental framework. I’m kind to others because I feel good seeing others happy. I try and make the world better, in small ways, because I want other to do the same, and don’t want to feel hypocritical.
It still unnerves me sometimes. I could turn off a lot of those feelings. I could easily make myself see others as lower, or lesser. Less worthy of happiness than me.
If the whole world is a simulation, then I deal with it as it comes. The same applies to religion.
FYI, there’s some (very weak) evidence that 3D space might actually be holographic projection from a 2D surface. If we are in a simulation, we are likely all in it together. At least we get to pick at the seams. It might even be stressing out a few higher dimensional post-grad students!
Ironically, this is (partially) why government social support services originally started in England. Back in the Victorian period, the rich realised it was cheaper to pay a bit more tax to keep the poor fed, than pay for security to stop them being robbed. It was also cheaper than locking them all up.
It even explains why the agents can jump between people. They are already running on their brains.
A good example of how it might play out can be seen in the bobiverse book series (we are legion, we are Bob). The main character ends up as the AI of a Von neumann probe. He/they spend most time at 1:1 speed (for sanity purposes). They can, however, “frame jack” to massive speeds for short periods. They use this to problem solve, before returning to more normal speeds to enact their solution.
Superhot is emulating accelerated thinking. It’s not that time speeds up as you move, but that your thinking speeds up when you don’t.
Given the plot is about an AI slowly hijacking your brain/mind, this makes complete sense.
Physics wise, this is the reverse of what would happen. Hypothetically, if you reduced the speed of light to an extremely low value, the opposite effect would occur. Time would move slower as you moved. Standing still would give maximum apparent time speed, while moving fast would slow your perception. It would also cause significant distortion to your perception, due to length compression. Not to mention how much it would screw up your body (what the hell does blood do, when time is passing slower in your arm than your torso?!?).
I’ve just read through the press release. It’s tentative (as all good science tends to be), but looks a lot more reliable than previous announcements.
Basically they’ve investigated, and can’t figure out any mechanism that could create this result, without life being involved.
On earth, we would call this obvious signs of microbe activity.
Uncompressed 1080 is already approaching the eyes resolution limit, when viewing it in a living room environment. 4K is close to the monitor usage limit.
The reason that 4K seems better is often down to bandwidth and colour depth.
There’s zero benefit to an 8K TV. An 8K monitor might be useful, but is still well into the diminishing returns curve.
There’s still some ground to be made up with colours and frame rates, but resolution is effectively maxed out already.

The observations are direct. LRDs are thought to be either clusters of stars or a black hole. The spin is such that it is incompatible with a cluster of stars.
The maths is non-trivial, so needs to be confirmed by others.
As for the primordial part. Black holes are thought to form 1 of 2 ways. Slow build up, in the core of a galaxy, or crushed together by the pressures just after the big bang. This object has a galaxy too small, and too young, to explain it’s size by slow growth. This implies that the galaxy formed around the hole, not vice versa.
This all seems pretty direct to me.
