Is there anything else that has smooth installation, vanilla GNOME, and a good balance of stability and updates? I stopped distro hopping after I found Fedora because it was perfect for me

39·1 month agoThe only reason the US is doing this is to try to get ahead of China and Russia’s own space programs, and eventually annex and weaponize the moon against them. Opposing the US space program is valid Revolutionary Defeatism, imo.

28·2 months agoSecuring major trade routes in preparation for an effective blockade of China. They want unilateral control of the Strait of Hormuz in order to specifically ban China from using it. It goes beyond Iran’s own energy supplies, because the other Gulf countries supply much more to China than Iran does.
It’s also why there is a focus on the Panama Canal, Greenland, Israel’s “Somaliland” base, etc.

15·3 months agoHugo Chávez was injected with a weaponized cancer-causing virus by the CIA. Just look at everything else that has happened to Venezuela since then. They are ruthless.
Some of the more grounded PLA watchers are dunking on the idea that this means China will give Iran J-20’s.
But I don’t know… this seems like a pretty deliberate signal. And China does have new 6th-gen fighters coming to preserve a decisive technological edge for themselves. I think people underestimate how geopolitically important Iran is to China. Of course, it would take at least a few years to set up exports and train pilots.

9·4 months agoIn terms of propaganda, don’t underestimate the power of simply mentioning an obscure place in pop culture. It’s like product placement.

11·4 months agoFirst Greenland movie was apparently made during Trump’s first presidency. Neill Blomkamp (semi-based anti-Trump radlib) was set to direct it but he left the project with no reason given. The final director, Ric Roman Waugh, apparently does other US propaganda movies (Angel Has Fallen, Kandahar).
I haven’t actually seen any of these movies, but I wouldn’t rule out long-con psyop on this one.

22·5 months agoRed herring maybe. My understanding is that there was nothing truly groundbreaking there, so they may have done it on purpose to devalue the other redactions.

At one point she jokingly asks them for a grenade and they give it to her, not understanding the subtext/danger.

17·6 months agoWhat I’m getting from it so far is mostly “AI bad.” One could argue that AI is a proxy for collectivism in the twisted mind of a liberal, but I don’t know.
I feel like the show could easily veer in another direction to make a larger point. Or not.
It’s perfectly watchable slop either way

I’ve been pivoting to (community-run) FOSS to avoid big tech secretly stealing all my data for their AI, and it felt really gross keeping a billionaire-owned proprietary blob running in my system tray 24/7.

I’m on stage 5-1 now I think. Decided to stick with the Punisher this time instead of following the Red 9 meta.

Thanks, I’ll check it out.
