Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina, a former Democrat who switched parties last year, announced his campaign for the 28th District as a Republican on Tuesday after months of speculation.

If it was deep red their ideal candidate would be a lifelong MAGA warrior, not a Democrat that just switched parties last year. He claims to be motivated by the same conservative values as Cuellar, he just stopped being a DINO because he thought it would serve him politically.

JFC Jeffries is actively harmful to the Democratic party. He brings nothing of value to the position and his association and role as one of its mouthpieces drags down the party image for people actually trying to fight for democracy.

His opponent is a Democratic judge who switched parties, so the delta with Cuellar is pretty small. Anything where Cuellar could be the deciding vote (up to and including deciding who gets to be speaker) is an opportunity for Trump to call his debt in. Or he’ll just switch parties as soon as he’s elected. There’s no reason to think Cuellar is going to be a reliable Democratic vote.

Hopefully he gets primaried so there’s a more reliable anti-Trump option, because right now it seems like a “heads I win, tails you lose” sort of decision.

It makes perfect sense. It sends the message that corruption is ok and is undoubtedly part of an additional corrupting quid pro quo. A pardoned Cuellar is not a slimy Democrat who got a lucky break, he’s Trump’s man.

So like the same 50% opposition as in the US. This kind of seems like we’re all living under the same propaganda and international political machines.

That’s just where you put programs that sound good but no one wants to spend the money to actually accomplish them. 2050 might be the end of the world, but it’d be because all the stuff we needed to do to head it off were given “we’ll get to it eventually” deadlines.

In that they’ll discover a task that sounds easy will be practically impossible to accomplish?

Using the best models as synthetic data is mostly pointless. You’re just going to recreate all of its biases and failures in a degraded copy. The whole point of open source software is being able to analyze the source code to learn how it works and understand and ideally remove its weaknesses.

Open weights doesn’t let you do that, and what research it enables is mostly just tinkering around the edges. If someone trained a network, but it kept saying racist stuff, you can’t figure out why it’s racist or rebuild it without the racism from weights alone. Just the weights is like having a binary. Maybe nice to have a gratis app to use, but not really open.

Open-source AI is the data, not the weights. Weights alone isn’t useless, but it’s not a platform to truly understand and modify a network. No one wants to open their data though, because that’s both what gives them a competitive edge and it would be an admission of widespread copyright violations.
