Canada@lemmy.ca•Alberta’s ERs Have Become ‘Death Zones,’ Warns DoctorEnglish
19·2 days agoIt’s almost as if systematically dismantling your health care system is a bad idea.
The UCP have been doing this for years in the hopes of painting the system as ineffective so that they can better sell a privatized system like the US has.
Fucking dickheads

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•This smoking pipe made from asbestosEnglish
40·2 days agodid someone say asbestos?

this is the tailings from the Cassiar Asbestos mine.
This mine is abandoned, and those tailings contain asbestos. During operation, green dust (asbestos) would blow everywhere. Kids playing in the snow would caution others to ‘eat around the green’ so they don’t get sick.
Mr. Simpson, are you just holding on to the cans?
Isn’t the mad woman in the attic a Mr Rochester thing?

41·21 days agoNot who you are replying to, but anyway. I generally find this place a lot better than reddit. Everything you point out is valid, RE: core problem. Moderating is volunteer work, and by nature mods have authority. The real crux as you point out is the lack of ability to appeal a ban. That and lack of ban standardization even amongst mods. Paying mods wouldn’t help really. You can’t ask mods to attend a so you want to be a moderator: a training program for those still in denial about their agoraphobia program.
Because instances admins can ultimately take their ball and go home like you mention. It’s a tricky situation.
I saw this x-ray elsewhere and IIRC the person fell off a cliff
