  • “…and in other news, the forum ****cars, an internet discussion group recently classified as an extremist group has been banned. Shrimply Flibbles, the groups moderator said they would appeal the ban and that the cartoon calling for the mass killing of car drivers had not been noticed until it was too late. They said the forum was a place where genuine concerns with mass car ownership could be discussed and that extremist views like those represented in the cartoon did not reflect the opinions of the members of the group. And now the weather…”

  • “Today’s hype will have lasting effects that constrain tomorrow’s possibilities.”

Nope. No it won’t. I’d love to have the patience to be more diplomatic but they’re just wrong… and dumb.

I’m getting so sick of these anti AI cultists who seem to be made up of grumpy tech nerds behaving like “I was using AI before it was cool” hipsters and panicking artists and writers. Everyone needs to calm their tits right down. AI isn’t going anywhere. It’s giving creative and executive options to millions of people that just weren’t there before.

We’re in an adjustment phase right now and boundaries are being re-drawn around what constitutes creativity. My leading theory at the moment is that we’ll all mostly eventually settle down to the idea that AI is just a tool. Once we’re used to it and less starry eyed about it’s output then individual creativity, possibly supported by AI tools, will flourish again. It’s going to come down to the question of whether you prefer reading something cogitated, written, drawn or motion rendered by AI or you enjoy the perspective of a human being more. Both will be true in different scenarios I expect.

Honestly, I’ve had to nope out of quite a few forums and servers permanently now because all they do in there is circlejerk about the death of AI. Like this one theory that keeps popping up that image generating AI specifically is inevitably going to collapse in on itself and stop producing quality images. The reverse is so obviously true but they just don’t want to see it. Otherwise smart people are just being so stubborn with this and it’s, quite frankly, depressing to see.

Also, the tech nerds arguing that AI is just a fancy word and pixel regurgitating engine and that we’ll never have an AGI are probably the same people that were really hoping Data would be classified as a sentient lifeform when Bruce Maddox wanted to dissassemble him in “The Measure of a Man”.

    How’s that for whiplash?

  • I think the thing that’s the most confusing about this is why did they wait??

"The timing is particularly baffling: Nintendo did not strike when the iron was hot and everyone was talking about Palworld and Pokémon, and at this late date, why bother? The greatest heights of Palworld’s success were clearly driven by the memetic catchiness of its Pokémon parody, now it’s just another survival crafting game with a stable enough core community—see also Valheim or Sons of the Forest. Palword has faded into the background, a brief curiosity overshadowed by 2024’s far more enduring megahit, Helldivers 2. Just in time for everyone to have largely forgotten about Palworld and moved on, Nintendo has swooped in to announce: “In case you’ve forgotten, they’re the little guy, and we are huge, awful bullies.”

Palworld has reportedly made nearly $500 million now (source - Simon Carless). Even if Nintendo win in some way won’t it cost them so much more to take Pocket Pair down now?

  • Thanks for that. I might give it another go. I have ADHD and I wonder if that also doesn’t help because remembering a lot of names and details is hard for me. My short term memory is really only reliable until I see any random shiny thing. I tried using the evidence board to track literally everything I saw but it quickly became way too ovewhelming. I’ll give it another go though I think.

  • I really, really wanted to like this game. I love the look and feel of it so much but I just needed a clearer bit of hand holding to figure out what I was supposed to do. It’s so open ended and I could never really tell if I was on the right track. I love the idea of crawling through vents, interrogating people, sneaking about and putting together pieces of evidence but it was just too overwhelming for me. I wish there was a guide that just explained simply how you’re supposed to play but I haven’t found one yet.

  • For me it’s coffee + environment. If I’m just at home chilling then the effect of drinking coffee is very mild. If I’m at a business networking event, for example, it can really trigger my hyper behaviours. I get extremely enthusiastic, creative and happy.

By the way, one of these business networking meetings I go to is exclusively for business owners with ADHD and I can’t tell you how much fun that is!

It’s basically 15 people happily talking over each other and not taking it personally and 5 or 6 who didn’t turn up because they thought it was another day. We have one neurotypical person there to try and tether the ballons that we are down into some sort of coherent group but it is wonderfully chaotic :)
