  • So that essay really doesn’t cover the actual propaganda technique which I’ve always heard called vranyo, and your right it could be that some Nazi or American decided to use a Russian word to label their propaganda technique. I shouldn’t have said Russia started it, but meant instead to cite back to Dostoevsky’s analysis of lying in Russia. The essay is an observation of why lying is so prevalent in late 1800’s Russia.

    This line most stands out to me as an early example of why a blatant lie is a wonderful tactic in propaganda; For centuries truth will lie right on the table before people but they will not take it: they will chase after a fabrication precisely because they look upon it as something fantastic and utopian.

    Like you had asked earlier. Why do chuds all spout the same blatant lie that immigrants get tens of thousands of dollars in free stuff? It is because they know they are lying and are seeking to entertain an audience with others who will repeat and purport the lie. Your coworker is testing if you will participate in the ritual, when you refute it with fact you’ve indicated you are not going to participate in this ritual.
