News@lemmy.world•ICE is sweeping up Native Americans in Minnesota arrests, tribal leaders say: ‘Our citizenship is not negotiable’English
3·6 days agotribal members have been citizens far longer than the United States has even existed
I understand the point you are making here, although I want to add that most American Indians were not United States citizens until 1924.
The United States is not their country, but a force that is occupying their land. It is more complicated than that, but it needs to be a part of the conversation, in my opinion.

12·6 days agoIf anyone is interested in the liberation of American Indians/First Nations I encourage you to get a copy and read “Custer Died for Your Sins” today!
Also, if you don’t want to be a colonizer, the first step is to actually study the history of the people in your local region. The history of indigenous people and settlers is not necessarily separate, but intertwined.
In order to stand together with tribes, most of whom gave been held in poverty and disrespected (and worse!) by the United States, it is important to thoroughly understand the topics at hand so we can bring about the proper restitution. Despite the efforts of settlers to erase these people and their history, we have the opportunity to stand with them and write a new chapter.

3·6 days agoI don’t think you meant it that way, but there are many many lands that belong to American Indians, but are not federally recognized due to:
- never having been ceded in a treaty
- the US government outright breaking the treaty
I’m also down to go with “all the land is theirs regardless as the treaties were signed under duress”.

5·6 days agoIsn’t it kind of Trump’s way of doing business? That’s exactly where things are headed for people who stand up against him.
No you pretty much laid it out in you comment, I think it tracks.
Having a misleading UI and making not-unprobable assumptions about viewers feels less problematic though?
I don’t think I particularly matters where the situation lands on the “scale of problematicness”, but youre correct it does exist and it isn’t at the far end of the spectrum. Nonetheless, it is a symptom of a greater social issue (patriarchy), and it warrants discussion and criticism.
The porn industry is made up of corporations, which will tend to reproduce the same heiarchies that exist in society, since that’s what’s most profitable. It isn’t inherently problematic to objectify people in a sexual context, however it isn’t applied equally, and is reproduced in the user controls on most porn sites.
They just assume everyone is a straight male or a gay male, so the choice that gets presented is “gay stuff” or “everything else”. This is reflected in user stats, but it is also going to be self fulfilling. It would make more sense to be able to select one or more options of the broad “straight/gay/les/other” if pornhub existed in a relatively equal society. I don’t expect them to do this, but I do expect my online community to be able to discuss it and how it both reflects and reproduces harmful social constructs.
Idk if that clarifies anything, but I think you and I are in the same ballpark?

5·7 days agoNo local DSA or PSL branch for you?
OK and they don’t have to cater in a misogynistic way, but they do, and I’m criticizing that decision.
We can leave it at the same volume. Its not “all men are bad” even, no need to make things up, its embedded misogyny, even perpetuated by women at times.
The question why is “lesbian” porn, in the “straight” section?
Why would a straight woman on a porn site expect to see lesbian porn when they select to see straight porn? It’s a double standard.
If men (or anyone else) wanted to watch lesbian porn, there’s nothing wrong with that, it just seems out of place in the straight section, cause that’s not what it is.

3·7 days agoOh OK cool, disregard then
Why?
From the perspective of pornography distributors and consumers, all womens’ bodies exist for their sexual gratification. This includes lesbians ofc.
It’s simply manifestation of misogyny.

3·7 days agoI think this has been proposed before, but i think that the instance with the most users (whatever it may be) should be deprioritized on join-lemmy, for the health of the federation. Its not like people won’t come into contact with the largest instance like right away anyway (and could just kale a new account if they really want to)

The other hand of the issue is the Democrats have repeatedly failed to recognize and manage the necessary decline of capitalism. It’s “necessary” because capitalism had globalized and essentially run out of land and people too exploit.
Exploited countries will push (are pushing) back, and/or look for other options (China, etc). Because the Democratic party is a pro-capitalism party, they are unable to recognize this situation. Republicans recognize it and turn up the heat, both internally and externally. For a lot of (foolish) Americans, this looks like an appealing option.
The democrats could sweep 2028, but it means the snapback is going to be even more intense in 2032 when they fail to govern.
