    I don’t understand why we care about what the pope has to say around here. Dude bad the power of Strong Suggestion over one sect of one religion, it’s a big one but if he were to do anything even remotely radical we’d have a second anti pope to some and a first for many. There are freaks our there still mad at Vatican 2 and protstsntism is pretty popular as well. This is like caring about how woke the king of England is.

      I’m from a catholic family, and saw the influence of John Paul II on older family members. Doctrine hasn’t changed much, but Francis toned down the obsession with abortion and anti-communism, and emphasized the more accepting parts of church doctrine.

      Also, liberation theology is good. Having a pope that’s not extreme anticommunist probably has some positive effects for latin america’s more radical catholics

      Also, the vatican is a sovereign state. I don’t think it should be, but it is. So its leader has some amount of legal influence on world politics
