Original Post:

Am I supposed to be excited? How bad must your resturant be running if the best you’ve got to offer is your excess ice.

Update:

Some of you have expressed criticism of how I’ve framed this. You guys are right. I’m fuckin losing it.

I think I’ve been spending too much time reading news, seeing dead babies, Názis taking over the country, the cIimate crisis etc… I’m not being sarcastic, I think this shit has fucked me up. I’m at the point where seeing a sign for lce is perceived as bleak doom.

I need to take a break from, everything. Thank you for holding up the mirror.

That’s not a promotion, just a thing they’re selling for the summer season. Damn convenient too IMO

It’s all about add on sales. If you go in and buy just a burger, even at the prices today they’re likely losing money from that sale. They want you to buy sides or a drink, and if it’s a spot where people are ordering meals for a game or event ice is a quick way to make more money. All it takes is a sign placement, and if they don’t know you have ice, they aren’t going to order any.

Not uncommon to do during heat waves or summer events. Can be cheaper than buying it from a grocery store

I live in Minnesota and these signs show up in the drive thru of our local BK every summer and disappear every winter. I don’t think it’s any kind of special promotion, probably just an additional revenue stream.

The fountain machines typically have a bunch of ice in the hopper already, I’m guessing any bagged ice they sell is probably pretty high margin and not frequent enough to interfere with the primary business.

Sonic sells ice too. I think they do it every summer. Can top off your cooler while picking up food.

In Australia most petrol stations and liquor stores sell ice in 5 kg bags. I’m not sure if you can even buy it here at Hungry Jack’s (the name of the Burger King franchise in Australia).
