After Donald Trump's executive order on plastic straws, one business owner says his company's prospects have "completely switched" while others worry about future consequences on the environment and human body.
You know, if we could just get them to stop packaging things like an SD card in 3 layers of clamshell packaging I could let this slide. There are a lot bigger targets than this, unfortunately those bigger targets won’t be addressed in this administration, particularly if doing so means less profit for the offenders.
This is done to prevent shoplifting. It is a huge waste of plastic. Only alternative is to keep small electronics locked up until an associate opens and sells it to you.
My local supermarket only has cardboard pictures of SD cards on the shelves and they give you the card on checkout. I have also seen reusable plastic cases you can’t slip into your pocket. Same thing with saffron. There are many ways to reduce packaging without causing shoplifting or having to look around for an attendant to unlock the shelves. If regulations are in place to remove single use plastic packaging I am sure supernarkets will find a way

Honestly forget the environmental impact just do it for the consumer. It is hated by pretty much everyone.

It’s the manufacturers that design the packaging. But yes, there is always another solution.
They usually do both, at least in major cities
