2 top images are same attempt - with and without auto-slant
Something screwed up. Probably with the audio recording, perhaps it dropped a few samples so QSSTV desynchronized there.
Boring setup:
V-Dipole, RTL-SDR v3, waterproof smartphone (it was snowing, else I’d bring a laptop)
Nice!! I don’t have any equipment to do any of this myself, but did see a video SaveItForParts on this. Cool to see some images!
You don’t need any special equipment. A baofeng or RTL-SDR will work fine. The stock antenna on a baofeng will pick up the ISS on a high elevation pass if you hold it sideways. A handheld yagi can be built from some scraps of wire and wood.
A dipole will do just fine.
And with RTL-SDR you could also receive NOAA APT and Meteor LRPT on 137MHz with the same dipole.
I keep using that damn extendable dipole for everything xD It’s very portable, fits into a pocket.
Edit:
I also got this. It’s a clone of SDRPlay RSP1. Works really well for HF, although the RTL-SDR v4 probably does too, it goes a bit higher in frequency than RTL-SDR, but most importantly, 10MHz of bandwidth (~8MHz usable) while still being cheaper than RTL-SDR blog dongles (genereic ones are cheaper).
Unfortunately, it seems they don’t sell these anymore, but maybe there’s something similar.
If you have a cheapo handheld radio and a phone you can get them, doesn’t take very special equipment.
Does take a lot of luck though.
Thanks for the heads up, I will definitely take a look!
