I gotta say, the couple of times I’ve found myself considered a “friend” in some unrelated niche hobby community by someone who turned out to be a vaush/destiny devotee, this is exactly the type of impression I got.
Lots of enormous essay replies in arguments with them, inscrutable grudges that seemed to last months if not over a year, incredible insecurity about their own appearance of intelligence. (The last part does make sense to me, actually–if it’s all about nuance for you, then you have to believe that you have a brain fit for the job I guess)
