This is what really bugs me with technology like this. I have some memory issues where I can’t immediately recall details sometimes, so forget things like names. Something like these glasses with a non shitty version of Facebook would be amazing for me.

Imagine walking down the street and seeing someone you know, and a little window pops up with some relevant information that they’ve chosen to share with you. It could have their name and a few lines of other information, like saying that their birthday is a few days away, or their kid’s and partner’s names.

Instead we’ve got the shittiest version possible where they just suck in as much data as possible to sell to other shitty companies 😤

I also have memory issues leading to me forgetting names and that sounds like an invasive, inhuman, and awkward way to live.

hello… Carl. Are you excited for your son’s birthday?

How did you know it was my son’s birthday

oh haha my glasses just popped up a bunch of facts about you

oh. Okay. I have to go.

No on cares if you forget their name. But if you start bringing up shit that they posted about on Facebook it’s going to get awkward.

Well, yeah, if you talk to someone like they’re a stranger it’s going to sound awkward. I already know my friend’s names and details about their families, because we’re friends. I’m not thinking of approaching random people in the street and spouting private details of their lives…

The reason I said that it would have information that they chose to share is for precisely that - they’ve actively chosen to share that information with you in particular. An actual conversation between friends would be more like

Hey stranger, long time no see (slightly silly intro between friends, assuming the info hasn’t loaded yet). How’ve you been?

Yeah, not bad thanks. Busy with the kids, but all good (hopefully by now everything’s loaded)

I can imagine. How’s Kelly (one of the kids) finding school? Is she excited for her birthday?

Oh, she hasn’t stopped talking about it. I’m dreading having a house full of overexcited kids in the house for her party, but she’s really looking forward to it.

Yeah, I don’t envy you for that! (Both laugh, because as much as dads love our kids, birthday parties are hard work). Anyway, I’ve got to go. Nice to see you again Carl, good luck with the party

Much more organic when you have an actual conversation with a friend and don’t just randomly spout facts at someone 👍
