    The answer is rooted in Cold War Christianity, the narrative of the Cold War as a Crusade, and the weird liberal belief they don’t even consciously realise they believe, of communism as a Russian ethnoreligion and the USSR as a Scary Foreign Theocracy that Threatened Christendom. It’s just medieval religious bullshit turned on a political enemy. That’s all the Red Scare really was, and that’s still all it really is. It’s just Cold War Christianity, and that’s just Crusades era Great Holy War and Rival Theocracies mentality.

    Or, y’know, it’s just run of the mill American “everything I hate is COMMUNISM!” and “commies are a terrifying and very real threat that will destroy the nation if we give them one damn minute of debate time!”
