Anyone working on anything fun or interesting?
No projects really. Mostly studying for the extra exam and practicing CW
Both are good things to do!
Just finished putting together a uBitx v6 full kit. Now to test it!
How much soldering is required for that? Seems like they put on the surface mount parts for you?
There’s no soldering at all; just mechanical assembly.
My local club has equipment lying areound to build a portale repeater. So far, I figured how to programm those ancient gm350s. Currently working on retuning some cavity filters. Once that is done, the thing needs power (battery, solar, mains).
I’ve heard tuning cavity filters is an experience - touchy and time consuming.
It all is a matter of equipment.
With a NanoVNA, you are limited by the number of data points the the sampling rate those points are read. While using an NanoVNA, it, indeed, is touchy and time consuming. While using an oscilloscope with a tracking generator, you see the results instantly and tuning is a breeze.
Also the dynamic range makes a huge difference. You have a hard time if your signal drops into the devices noise level when locking for a minimum. I am lucky to know people with the right equipment.
About to make a hibiscus mead again. Or trying to come up with something to make with MERN.
I have a QMX on the bench, but I won’t get back to it for a couple of weeks. Still hacking away on getting to a reliable 15 wpm on CW.
I want one of those, but I want a better band selection, like 40-30-20-17-15. I think those are the best for SOTA and POTA. Maybe when the rush dies down Hans will release one 🤞
Hadn’t seen the QMX. Was thinking about a mountain topper but this looks pretty sweet.
Good luck on the CW. Built a morserino a few months back and it’s helped with practice a lot. Was a fun build too
I’ve got some partially built kits I need to finish (5w10), and some that are built that don’t work yet (truSDX, para80set). Debugging is hard.
