i love everything about nier automata except that it hijacks my camera all the damn time and even hijacks movement pretty often

its attestation, not verification, and they are just putting things in place to comply with the law bc you have to. being open source does not exempt you from following the law.
also, since every proprietary platform won’t even bat an eye over this everything will soon require it to function (obviously assuming the laws pass). this means linux won’t work properly with any web-based things. this is the same issue you get whenever Wayland tries to go against what every other platform does and just breaks a bunch of apps.
finally, a real political meme instead of just somebody’s opinion in a tweet
make the shitty meme yourself lazy

Linux@programming.dev•Systemd’s New Feature Brings Age Verification Option to Linux
15·2 months agohey dumbass, private corporations have to follow the law and they need to react fast enough to have a system in place when the law takes effect.

Memes@sopuli.xyz•Say no to any age verification taking root
21·2 months agomight just be forgetting smth but I have no idea what you mean by persona. so far though, all sys76 have done is work towards supporting something they are about to be legally required to do in the state they’re based in (co), even if they did it in a kind of sucky way.

Memes@sopuli.xyz•Say no to any age verification taking root
41·2 months agoyou can still reach out to the people who make those decisions and try to get people ti understand why age verification and attestation are bad. theres no point getting mad at companies for complying with the law. arguing how they’re doing it is fine but complaining they’re doing something they literally have to is just whining.

Linux@programming.dev•Systemd’s New Feature Brings Age Verification Option to Linux
22·2 months agothats fair, but a lot of people are giving them shit for complying in the first place with a law that is going to be in the state they’re based in.

Memes@sopuli.xyz•Say no to any age verification taking root
138·2 months agoits age attestation, not verification, and linux is still going to have to comply with the law either way. being open source does not give us immunity from whatever laws are passed. if you have a problem with it, keep the law from being passed in the first place.

Linux@programming.dev•Systemd’s New Feature Brings Age Verification Option to Linux
258·2 months agoits age attestation, not age verification (saying it vs proving it). also, dont give systemd shit about this bc they are just covering their asses in case more restrictive laws go through.

6·2 months agoglad they’re finally realizing the metaverse is bullshit. the term came from early cyberpunk (genre, not franchise) media to describe the internet as we know it before it was invented and properly named.

1·2 months agowhat’s the issue though? the existing system in plasma is already so out of the way its barely useful, so it makes sense to replace it with a better system and just ignore it. not that you shouldnt be doing what you’re doing, I just dont get why.

1·2 months agoit had kinda the same idea of working with kwin instead of against it but it just worked worse than other options. iirc it got abandoned bc nobody was interested anymore once krohnkite was revived. yours also seems kinda similar to mousetiler.
