I see it’s decentralized. Do I just go to pixelfed.org and create an account, or is this like the fediverse where you have to pick an instance to get started?
Edit: for anyone looking, the Pixelfed website has a list of instances, so you can try to find an instance that most appeals to you.
DJI voluntarily created its geofencing feature, so it makes a certain degree of sense that the company would get rid of it now that the US government no longer seems to appreciate its help, is blocking some of its drone imports, calls DJI a “Chinese Military Company,” and has started the countdown clock on a de facto import ban.
“The FAA does not require geofencing from drone manufacturers,” FAA spokesperson Ian Gregor confirms to The Verge.
While I don’t think this is a good change, especially after that drone damaged one of the firefighting planes, it does make sense that they would stop hamstringing their product if it’s not required. I assume consumers will also appreciate not being treated like children, but again… it’s not always a good idea to trust everyone to use common sense.

My experience with Whataburger is that the food is mediocre, and if it weren’t for bad service, they’d have no service at all. In fact, there’s one Whataburger that I have failed to eat at twice because no one came to the counter both times I tried.

I’m still running Plex (with lifetime subscription), so I have some questions/comments regarding transitioning from Plex to Jellyfin. They’re not necessarily directed at scrubbles.
I was told you don’t really have to change the organization of your media, but I read there are additional configuration tweaks needed to play your media remotely using Jellyfin, like installing/signing an SSL certificate.
I haven’t heard much about the quality of Jellyfin apps. It looks like they have a Roku app, so that should cover most of my needs, but I don’t see support for game consoles.
I’d also like a side-by-side comparison of features between the servers so that I know what I’d be giving up.
Not to mention the tracking (ok, you mentioned cookie notices, but not the actual tracking) that will ultimately impact your social media feeds.

Ok, I found a cool resource that gets me a little closer. Someone has a CSV of all Billboard top 100 songs since its inception through the current week. It’s about 343k rows (100 rows per week * 52 weeks * ~65 years), so I decided to script the heavy lifting. With a little help from an LLM, I was able to write a Python script that parsed the CSV and then looped over it (see below). Fortunately, my music is fairly well organized, so I was able to use the directory structure to check to see if I had a copy of the song for each of the hits.
With the output of the Python script, I was able to create an m3u playlist, which I can at least open in any decent music player on the same computer as my music. Fortunately, the format of the playlist is dead simple. I just started the file with
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="US_Billboard" tvg-name="Billboard Top 40 Hits" group-title="US Billboard",Billboard Top 40 Hits
and then added each file as a newline. I’m not sure the second line is even necessary, but it opened in VLC without an issue.
Unfortunately, I’ve heard that converting/importing an m3u playlist into Plex is not a simple process. You have to query the API and get an ID or manually go to each file and “Get Info”. The latter is definitely not practical for the couple thousand matches in my m3u file. I can try to look into querying the API from within the script, but I still don’t know the format for the request to add a song to a playlist. If only Python already had everything written for you.
Anyway… I might update if I get further along, but it’s not a major priority at the moment. Maybe this will help someone else in the future. I’m just trying to move the sticks.
