Is that not unique in the entire world of amphibians? I was under the impression all amphibians laid eggs.

Is this saying that these species give birth to live babies, as opposed to laying eggs?

News@lemmy.world•Medicaid chief’s claim $1bn is spent on healthcare for ‘illegal immigrants’ is false, say expertsEnglish
1·2 days agoWhy is it a fine line? Should we not have some standards for the people representing us? Just a base level of qualifications? Or is the job of government administrator really something that anyone at all is allowed to do? The consequences of these roles are some of the most widely impactful of nearly any other jobs in our society, and it’s frankly quite appalling to me that we just accept that a position of such consequence should be allowed to be occupied by whoever a single person decides. Why is the single criteria for these jobs simply whoever the president wants?

Politics@sh.itjust.works•More than a month after her election win, Johnson to finally swear in GrijalvaEnglish
43·2 days agoWait, I thought Mike Johnson said she wasn’t sworn in due to the shutdown. If she is being sworn in before the vote to reopen the government, does that mean that Johnson was lying? Say it ain’t so!

14·2 days agoThere needs to be some consequences for public officials making false or misleading statements. We would revoke a Drs or Lawyers license for malpractice, but apparently those who play with funding for critical government programs are allowed to just shit the bed each and every day?

I am not familiar with flat packs vs snaps, I will have to look into that. I’m not opposed to learning different file systems if need be, it’s all new to me anyway, but if one is easier than the other I would probably go with that.
Reaper was the plan, but open to something different.
What hardware do you have? Mine is somewhat on the older side (ryzen 3600 and rx 6600), but new enough to run games and other software decently.
What apps does Mint have installed by default? Because I’m trying to minimize the things I need to tinker with up front to have a good experience. I am somewhat technically savvy, but this is my first linux install, so I’d like it to go smoothly and hit the ground running. What is the benefit of mint over this OS?

1·3 days agoInteresting stuff, thanks for sharing! Definitely concerning, especially the openAI stuff. I guess I will take a look at grapheneOS again, but I just hate the idea that I need to buy a google product in order to use it.

6·4 days agoI’m currently OS shopping, and saw a video of a PikaOS install that looked extremely easy and painless. The fact that it prompts you to install the “gaming meta” packages right up front is clutch. I think I might give that a go as my first install.

Highlights the idiocy of dividing people up by generation, they just totally skipped Gen X, because there was no neat little stereotype they could come up with.

That would actually be sick, a spigot on the top of steam box that functions as an on/off switch.
