No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•(serious) What would we be losing in a world where most people didn't own a car? Please read the OP before posting.
41·8 days agoStupid take. Cars are still a problem. And so is poverty and relegation of poor people to expensive and underserved transit. The problem is not cities.

I ate fermented shark meat in Iceland and I have never tasted something more disgusting and pervasive in my life. The taste just refused to go away. Plus it was -20 in the middle of the night while we were attempting to catch faint Aurora in the sky but all I could focus on was trying to swish enough saliva around in my mouth in an attempt to get rid of that smell.
So uhhh… Save the sharks!

2·19 days agoNo, because you share individual folders accessible to anyone. It’s not homogeneous data that is pooled together based on hash.
If you have a copy of Dungeon Crawler Carl, and another guy has a copy of Dungeon Crawler Carl, people can choose to download from either of you, but not from both of you at the same time.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•When did it become normalized to start passing credit card processing fees to the customer?
4·23 days agoI work in fintech, serving the US market. Fees are varying but not specific to AMEX/Discover/MC/Visa. There’s card fees and then there’s gateway and payments processor fees. Often this is cumulatively just a flat fee, like $3-4, which is why some places will have signs saying “$3 extra charge for CC purchases below $20”.

World News@lemmy.world•Father faces no charges for fatally shooting daughter after fight about Donald TrumpEnglish
1·24 days ago“'memba”, or “remember that thing” moments are when they shoe horn cameos from other franchise characters or into the show, or the writers add dialogue referencing events in the universe and the audience goes “yes! I know that character” or “hey, I know that other show!”. Disney’s star wars is notoriously bad at it, and so is the MCU to a slightly lesser degree. It’s off putting and very low-brow, breaking the flow of a plot by introducing a very obvious fan service element.
If you are not misinterpreting it, I’m glad to hear.
