20·5 days ago* is definitely legal in most of the world
That said, if anyone has better suggestions for a reader that doesn’t involve giving money to a shitty company like Amazon, this would be a great place to post them!

2·5 days agoBuying a used bike would probably be the most economical: You can get a quality bike for $100-200 probably.
Alternately: Folders are a lot more transportable. I love my Priority Folder and a trifold like Brompton or Takachia would be even more transportable!

2·5 days agoYeah, that chain is looking kinda beat up. It’s good to check it in a few locations but it’s probably time for a new one (plus, riding too long on a worn chain can prematurely wear out your cassettes too).
Holy shit, they were still on there???

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If I got in a collision with a car from the 70s with a car today, would not the 70s car win out since it would primarily be metal? If so why don't people buy more 70's cars?English
34·6 days agoThe car might sustain less damage, however, the occupant will receive more damage. People buy newer, safer cars, presumably because they like being alive and would prefer to keep doing that.
Modern cars are designed to break before their drivers do, because you can’t replace you, but you can buy a new car.

2·6 days agoJust as a general piece of advice: The ParkTools YouTube channel has tons of great maintenance and adjustment videos.
The chain cleaner is good for cleaning it up between oilings, but you want to be super thorough in degreasing before waxing. I’d recommend checking out some tutorials before you wax.

2·6 days agoIf you use the same chain, be sure to thoroughly degrease it before waxing. They sell pre-waxed chains too, but I’m not sure of brands off hand. You’ll also want to completely clean off your drive train.
What’s wrong with your rear brakes? Good thing you found that bike clinic!

Games@lemmy.world•Does the engine a game uses factor into your decision to buy it or not?English
6·7 days agoIt can if the engine makes the game run poorly or not at all (I wouldn’t buy it) or if the engine is exceptionally well regarded and runs great it might make me a bit more inclined to buy the game.
If it’s an engine famous for being janky, it might also make me delay buying the game until devs or modders fix it.
Also, if the engine is known for being mod friendly, that would probably make me more inclined to consider buying the game.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which one is more annoying: leftover bread or leftover cheese?English
4·7 days agoI’d rather have cheese if I’m on a train and don’t need carbs for fuel. If I was riding a bike, I might feel differently.
If there’s a disparity in your bread/cheese supply, you could stretch it out by only eating one slice of bread at a time, folding it over a whole piece of cheese (also folded).

For travel purposes, the best option is probably something like a Brompton or Takachia trifold bike: They’re a good combination of being fairly rideable, but also very compact.
