Technology@lemmy.world•32GB of DDR5 now costs $375 minimum — AI shortage continues to squeeze PC buildingEnglish
41·3 days agoI didn’t say desktop. But, in any case, there are plenty of reasons someone might want extra storage in their desktop without shelling out for an SSD.

2·4 days agoIt’s interesting, that’s what I felt was happening, but when I looked at the charts, it seems they are less than double. Either way it feels really expensive.

1261·4 days agoHDDs have doubled in price recently too. Not a good time to try building a computer.

14·9 days agoAh the age-old question: do you pay for tokens, or engineers?
True, I never had sex before 1996
It does have lubricating properties as it leaves an oily film. But, that film is thin and temporary which is why you shouldn’t use wd-40 as a lubricant.
Put your seat back, you’ll get more room.

Canada@lemmy.ca•New Canadian bill forces messaging apps to log data
2·12 days agoI wrote my MP as well, but focused on the privacy industry exiting Canada if logging was required for them to operate legally (and how that would affect me, personally), and how forcing services to add a back door for the government to access data would compromise everyone’s security. I cited Geist and various other articles.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If a dystopia begins in 2027 where you own nothing, and you must be happy, how are you going to live there?
5·13 days agoI didn’t read these as options - they’re an order of operations.
It’s even hard to find black tape around here.
Interesting. We usually have a few options here in Canada. The hardware stores will have a rack of duct tapes of various colours (like 20 options from black to pink and even patterns, like tartan.) There’s also hockey stick tape (shocking, in Canada, I know), flex seal and electrical tape.
Thanks. Looks good. I probably would have been lazy and used black duct tape.
It’s interesting how the air flow changes when you leave fan spots empty. I even had a computer that ran cooler with the side of the case off… until it got to high temperatures (and thus higher fan speeds). With the side of the case off the temperatures would take a long time to move up but would end up going really high. With the case all closed up and the fans in place, it would get up to temperature faster but then would stay there, even at high usage (though the temperature was too high, which is why I was investigating.)

The wording of the title made it sound like authorities forced them to close. In this case the manager/owner decided to shut down because it was too hot for their own staff, so kudos to them.
