A fan causes a crash on stage 15 as Wout Poels claims his first Tour de France stage win and Jonas Vingegaard maintains his overall lead.
Here is the best video showing the crash I found. They zoom in at one point. The guy was way in to the track. Not just his arm sticking out.
I wonder how fans treat someone in the crowd after something like that.
Okay but it was only the arm that got hitZ
The way your comment reads I was looking for him to be on the track but not even close. Absolute moron for sticking the hand/arm out though
Again.
There should be harsher punishments for clueless people like this person who wanted to take a selfie.
Why do we let idiots off with a slap on the wrist when they cause accidents, injuries and sometimes death.
How do the event handle the delays caused to the riders? Will their times be much worse due to a crash or how does it work?
I agree, these gentlemen train incredibly hard all year (and have been doing so for much of their lives) only to get injured by some selfish and clueless fan and have to drop.
The behavior of fans during climbing segments is even more infuriating to me. At the bare minimum, it’s incredibly disrespectful of the riders. In the case of a significant fan interference like this, organizers stop the entire race and note the time gaps between groups. Once the injuries and mechanicals are tended to, they restart with those same time gaps.
